Gauging interest: ES motor mount inserts

Postby knight_yyz » Sat Nov 15, 2008 4:12 pm

I know there are some of you who want to go with the Energy Suspension motor mount inserts. It can be a DIY job if you have a press to pop out your old oil filled pieces of junk rubber inserts. But most of us don't. I do however have access to a press. So I was thinking of doing a revolving sort of swap.

We would have to start off with one guy who was willing to pay for the 1st set of motor mount brackets. MMI's are 100 for the set taxes in. So I get the first set of ES MMI's and press them into the new set of brackets. You come to my place, or I come to yours (if you have a floor jack and stands. We raise the car on stands, remove the crossmember and remove your old crappy motor mounts, and replace them with the new ones. We put the crossmember back in and you are ready to go. For an extra 30 we can do the sub mounts. 80 extra to me for doing the work.

I take your old mounts, bring them to work and press out the bushings and press in the new ES urethane ones. I use those on the next car. And so on and so on.

First guy gets new brackets, everyone else gets used one's from the car before him. I may also look into getting a first set of used ones from a wrecker.

So for 180 you get a set of brand new Energy suspension motor mounts. 210 if you want the sub's. This is for a 6 speed. Cost me 300 to get mine done.

For autos, knock 50 bucks off if you only need one motor mount.

These prices may need to be adjust a few bucks, depending on US exchange rates, the bushings bounce up and down in price. Just gauging interest to see if there are enough people to get the ball rolling.

start up a sign up list if interested.

I just checked the courtesy parts website and it looks like this can be done on any maxima from 95-03 at least.

Edited to confirm only up to 03. 04 and up uses electrical mounts and not compatible with the 95-03

I have edited this post due to some extra information I have found out. if your auto is 00-03 you can replace both mounts. If your auto is 95-99 you may only be able to replace the rear mount. Info is conflicting on which models have the front electronic mount. 95-99 electronic mount cannot be replaced with ES poly.

Do you have a photo of how the motor mounts look like?
Which generation maxima would this be for?

The stiffer motor mounts will reduce the bulk vibration in your engine and distribute it across your chassis. In a way, it means that your chassis will react better to the torque applied from the engine, and potentially better energy/power transfer onto the road.

I have custom motor mount inserts on my altima and my engine doesn't move much at all. Vibration isn't too significant either.

It will help reduce wheel hop, it will not allow the engine to move as freely as it does right now. I wish I had a video of the first time I dyno'd. The engine moves about 6" when you stomp the throttle with OEm mounts. In my car it doesn't even budge. It will transfer the power to the wheels better.

Auto would be 135.

I will try to find videos and post.

Should work on both 5 and 5.5 gens, not sure about 4th gens I haven't researched yet. I will get back to you on that.

I can't find a video of the vq35 with OEM mounts. I know there was a really bad sentra swap video showing the engine slapping around the engine bay. You would swear it wasn't bolted down.

finished product, your's will not necessarily be red, could be blue or black, I have no control over the color. ES makes them in batches and ships them out.

Looks good. Almost like a full ES mount or a Prothane mount.

it is an energy suspension mount, but just an insert to replace the crappy liquid filled rubber insert.

Ray you are always coming to the table with another improvement ... would something like this also improve/even out the torque on both front wheels, and improve or eliminate that wonder right hand steer torque that the Maxima's seem to have?

It will definitely help with wheel hop and getting the power to the wheels. I can't comment on the torque steer issue, I've never really had a problem with that. I have had only 1 or two times come across torque steer and it was driver error on my part. (taking a corner a little too tight and mashing the pedal at the wrong time)
